After consulting with local and national weather services about the April 2nd forecast, Kennett School District #39 will monitor the situation and may dismiss early. As always, updates will be shared via Thrillshare. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority during this weather event.

During normal school hours (7:30 AM -3:30 PM) when a tornado warning is issued (tornado sirens activated) by the Dunklin County’s Emergency Management Director, all campuses will follow their building protocols and procedures for hazardous weather. All students will be evacuated to their designated safe areas on their campus. In the event of a Tornado Warning, the FEMA building will be open and utilized by the students of KHS and open to the patrons of the district as well. Patrons surrounding the Safe Room will be expected to follow the protocols and procedures of the school district. The weather will continue to be monitored by the Field Manager and the Safe Room will remain open until the severe weather has abated and the National Weather Service has canceled the warnings and watches or they have expired. This information is what the approved plan for the FEMA building states.

KSD #39 was able to open the High School FEMA building last night for our community to seek shelter once the tornado warning was activated. Thanks to the support from our community to build the FEMA building, we were able to welcome almost 500 people last night! Use the QR code below to download our District's app. You'll need to adjust the setting and notification preferences as this is how we let our community know when the FEMA building is open and other important information about our District.
