Skills USA
The Skills USA is a national organization for youth who are enrolled in vocational industrial education programs. The goal of Skills USA is to help students who have interests in the Trade, Industrial, or Health fields to become happy, mature productive citizens.
Through club activities planned, initiated, and conducted by members, Skills USA develops the "whole" student, social and leadership abilities as well as skills.
Skills USA prepares youth for life. It brings together young men and women who share common interests for an exchange of ideas, a discussion of problems and the opportunity to work toward common purposes. Skills USA offers prestige and recognition through a national program of awards and contests. It broadens perspectives through interclub and interstate activities. It offers co-curricular activities that make education and training more meaningful.
Any Student enrolled in Trade, Industrial, Technical, or Heath Education classes may become a member of Skills USA. Membership in Skills USA is voluntary.
Future Business Leaders Of America
Future Business Leaders of America is an organization for all high school students participating in business and office programs. The span of organizations includes local chapters, state chapters, and the FBLA National organization. The purpose of the organization is to.
"...provide, as an integral part of the instructional program, additional opportunities for secondary students in business and office education to develop vocational and career supportive competencies and to promote civic and personal responsibility."
The Kennett Chapter No. 1432, a member of District 16 of the state organization, was established in 1956. Membership is open to students enrolled in business classes grades 10-12. The chapter is self-supportive by local money making projects and meets once a month. Annual activities include participation in competitive events in the district, state and national levels. Students have the opportunity to participate in areas of accounting, keyboarding, shorthand, job interview, Mr. and Mrs. Future Business Leader, job description manual, poster, and word processing. On the local level, the club takes field trips, invites guest speakers to regular meetings, and participates in a variety of school and community projects.
Distributive Education Clubs Of America
The Distributive Education Clubs of America is a co-curricular national youth organization with many local chapters in each state. DECA is a vital part of the Marketing program. By design, the club's aims are to develop future leaders in marketing and distribution, to provide incentives and recognition for Marketing students, and to build stats in public schools for careers in marketing and distribution.
The four basic purposes of DECA are; to develop leadership ability, to develop social intelligence, and to develop vocational competency, and to develop civic consciousness.
Some highlights of the state's DECA activities that the Kennett chapter regularly participate in are the competitive events at district and state levels and the election of local, district, and state officers.
In addition to the competitive events, the Kennett Chapter initiates student directed activities of their own. These include; employer - employee banquet, sales projects, socials, special meetings with guest speakers, and field trips.
